Great Tower of London Race

Date: Monday, July 23

Venue: Basement Dungeon to 12th floor Tower Keep

Participation: Team Event

Event Description: A team of two competitors will start in the basement Dungeon, make their way to the 12th floor (method of transportation is open to the team’s choice), get past the Tower Guards at the door of the Tower Keep (aka The Reading Room), snatch the Crown Jewels that lay inside, and then race back to the Basement Dungeon. This is a timed event. The team that successfully delivers the Crown Jewels to the Dungeon in the shortest amount of time will be the winner.

To Register: Send your name and the name of this event to the IOOC Coordinator before 10 a.m. of the day of this event. Walk-ons also welcome. Note: Participation in the Games provides tacit permission for the future use of any photographs or videos.

Rules:

1. Each team will have a separate start time, at an interval of 5 minutes from the start of the previous team's race. A team's clock will be stopped only when both team members and their stolen Crown Jewels have arrived back to the Basement Dungeon.

2. Teams may travel to and from the 12th floor by whatever method they choose, however, the emergency stairwell is (obviously) off limits.

3. Competitors may not interfere with another team's quest; highjacking and stealing another team's crown jewels is strictly forbidden. The judges will disqualify a team for these offenses.

4. Additionally, competitors must be courteous to library visitors and allow them right of way on the elevators and escalator (i.e. no pushing or shoving is allowed!)

Judging: The team that successfully delivers the Crown Jewels to the Dungeon in the shortest amount of time will be the winner. Each team will be timed by a panel of officials and judges and the three teams with the lowest times will be awarded medals.

Judges: Staff and students of Special Collections and Archives (including one alumni GSA).
